🌟 Let’s Add Big Numbers Together! 🌟
Adding big numbers means putting two groups of things together to find the total. It's
like building a giant LEGO tower—brick by brick, we stack them up until they're super tall!
How Do We Add Big Numbers?
First comes ones, then comes tens... Hundreds follow, and thousands make friends!
Line Up: Write both numbers one under the
other so their places match (ones under ones, tens under tens).
Add Ones: Start from the right side where
the little ones live. Add those first!
Carry Over: If the answer is 10 or more,
carry the extra over to the next house (the tens place).
Move Left: Keep going left—tens, hundreds,
thousands—and keep adding as you go!
Let’s Try an Example!
We want to add 2,345 and 1,789. Ready? Here we go:
2,345
+ 1,789
---------
4,134
Explanation:
Start with the ones: 5 + 9 = 14. Write down 4 and carry over 1 to the tens.
Next, the tens: 4 + 8 + 1 (carried) = 13. Write down 3 and carry over 1 again.
Then, the hundreds: 3 + 7 + 1 (carried) = 11. Write down 1 and carry over 1 once more.
