How Does It Work?

First comes the x-number, then comes the y-number. Together they make a pair called (x, y). These numbers tell us exactly where to go on the graph.

Imagine you're playing hopscotch:

• Step 1: Start at the big cross in the middle (that’s called the origin).
• Step 2: Hop left or right using the x-number. Right means bigger, left means smaller!
• Step 3: Then hop up or down using the y-number. Up means higher, down means lower!
• Step 4: Stop and mark your spot—it’s like planting a flag!

We want to find the point (3, 2).

1. Start at the origin (the big cross).
2. Hop 3 steps to the RIGHT because our x-number is 3.
3. Now hop 2 steps UP because our y-number is 2.
