Discover how fun learning can be with games and surprises!
Putting decimal numbers in order means arranging them from smallest to biggest or biggest to smallest.
Think of it like lining up your toys by height—first the shortest one, then taller and taller until the tallest stands at the end!
First, look at the whole number part. That’s the number before the dot (.). If that’s different, it tells us which is bigger right away!
If the whole number parts are the same, don’t worry! Just move to the decimal part (the numbers after the dot) and compare those step by step.
Remember: "Decimals are like treasure maps—follow the dots to find the answer!"
We have these numbers: 3.25, 3.4, 3.09.
Step 1: Look at the whole number part. All of them start with 3, so we need to check the decimal part next!
Step 2: Compare the first digit after the dot. The first number has 2, the second has 4, and the third has 0. Since 0 is smaller than 2, and 2 is smaller than 4, here’s the order:
3.09, 3.25, 3.4. Yay, you did it!
- Use real-life examples like money ($1.25 vs $1.50) or measurements (1.5 feet vs 1.75 feet).
- Draw number lines together to show where decimals fit between whole numbers.
- Make it fun with games—write decimals on cards and let your child arrange them in order.
- Repeat key ideas often, like “Whole numbers first, then the decimals!”
