Today we're going to review how to add and subtract. Adding means putting things together. First comes 1, then comes 2… and now we have more! Subtraction means taking away. Taking away means less!
Here’s a fun trick: Imagine apples in a basket. If you put more apples in, you’re adding. If you take some out, you’re subtracting. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
Let’s try an example:
If Sammy has 5 candies and his friend gives him 3 more, how many candies does Sammy have?
We add 5 + 3 = 8. So, Sammy has 8 candies! Yum yum!
Tips for Superhero Parents:
Use toys or snacks to show addition and subtraction. Kids learn best when they can touch and move objects. Sing songs about counting ("One little, two little, three little numbers!") to make it fun. And don’t forget to cheer them on—they’ll glow with confidence!
