What is Addition?
Addition is putting numbers together to find the total!
When we add, we're combining things to see how many we have altogether. It's like when you have 2 apples and get 3 more - now you have 5 apples!
How to Add Numbers
1️⃣ Count the first group of items
2️⃣ Count the second group of items
3️⃣ Count all the items together to find the total!
Let's Practice Addition!
Example 1: Counting Animals
There are 3 cats and 2 dogs playing in the yard. How many animals are there altogether?
Let's count them together: 1, 2, 3 (cats) plus 1, 2 (dogs) makes 5 animals!
3 + 2 = 5
Example 2: Adding Candies
You have 4 red candies and 4 blue candies. How many candies do you have in total?
Let's add them: 1, 2, 3, 4 (red) plus 1, 2, 3, 4 (blue) makes 8 candies!
4 + 4 = 8
Parent Tips 🌟
- Use everyday objects: Count toys, fruits, or steps to make addition practice fun and practical.
- Make it a game: Play "addition hopscotch" where each square has a number to add to the next.
- Celebrate small wins: Praise your child for trying, even if they don't get it right the first time.
