What Does "Adding Tens" Mean?
Adding tens is like counting by 10s!
When we add tens, we're combining groups of ten. It's just like counting 10, 20, 30, but now we're putting different groups together.
How to Add Tens
1️⃣ Look at the first number (how many tens?)
2️⃣ Look at the second number (how many more tens?)
3️⃣ Count all the tens together!
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Adding with Blocks

20

?
See how 1 ten + 2 tens = 3 tens? That's 30!
Example 2: Cookie Groups
If you have 4 boxes with 10 cookies each, and you get 3 more boxes, how many cookies do you have?
40

30

?
4 tens + 3 tens = 7 tens (70 cookies!)
