Regrouping Tens and Ones I

Learning to exchange ones for tens like a math magician!

What is Regrouping?

Regrouping is like trading small blocks for bigger ones!
When we have 10 single blocks (ones), we can trade them for 1 long block (ten). This makes counting and adding much easier!

How to Regroup

1️⃣ Count your ones blocks (up to 9 is fine!)

2️⃣ When you reach 10 ones, trade them for 1 tens block

3️⃣ Now you have fewer blocks to count - how smart!

Let's Practice Together!

Example 1: The Block Exchange

Count these ones blocks. Can we make a trade?

Example 2: Cookie Sharing

Emma has 14 cookies. She wants to pack them in boxes of 10. How many boxes can she make?

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use real objects like buttons or beans to practice regrouping - kids love hands-on learning!
  • Make it a game: "Can you find 10 small items to trade for 1 special big item?"
  • Connect to everyday situations: grouping crayons, packing snacks, or organizing toys.
