Learning to exchange ones for tens when we have too many!

What is Regrouping?

Regrouping is like trading little blocks for bigger ones!
When we have 10 or more ones blocks, we can trade them for 1 tens block. This makes counting easier and helps us understand bigger numbers.

How to Regroup Tens and Ones

1️⃣ Count all the ones blocks

2️⃣ Trade 10 ones for 1 tens block when you can

3️⃣ Write how many tens and ones are left

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use real objects like buttons or cereal pieces to physically group and trade items - this makes the concept more concrete
  • Practice with drawings - have your child draw sticks for tens and dots for ones to visualize the regrouping
  • Play store - use play money (dimes and pennies) to reinforce that 10 pennies equal 1 dime, just like 10 ones equal 1 ten
