Comparing - Review

Let's explore which numbers are bigger, smaller, or equal!

What is Comparing?

Comparing helps us see how numbers relate to each other!
We can look at two numbers or groups of objects and tell which one is greater (bigger), less (smaller), or if they're equal (the same). We use special symbols like >, <, and = to show these relationships.

How to Compare Numbers

1️⃣ Count the objects or look at the numbers

2️⃣ Decide which one is bigger, smaller, or if they're equal

3️⃣ Use the right symbol: > (greater than), < (less than), or = (equal to)

Let's Practice Comparing!

Example 1: Comparing Apples

5 apples 3 apples

Which group has more apples?

Example 2: Cookie Comparison

2 cookies

3 cookies

Which symbol correctly compares these groups?

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Make it real: Compare everyday items - ask "Do we have more forks or spoons?" or "Are there more red cars or blue cars in the parking lot?"
  • Hands-on learning: Use toys or snacks to create groups for comparison. Kids love comparing their favorite things!
  • Alligator trick: Teach that the ">" and "<" symbols are like an alligator's mouth - it always wants to eat the bigger number!
