Understanding Tens and Ones
Numbers from 10 to 20 are made of tens and ones!
When we count past 9, we start making groups of ten. A "ten" is like a full box of 10 items, and "ones"
are extra items that don't quite make another full box.
How to Count Tens and Ones
1️⃣ First, count how many groups of ten you have
2️⃣ Then count how many extra ones are left
3️⃣ Put them together to make the whole number!

Parent Tips 🌟
- Use everyday objects like buttons or cereal pieces to make groups of ten and count the extras
- Practice counting by tens (10, 20, 30...) to build number sense before focusing on the ones
- Play "How Many?" games during car rides - ask "If I have 1 ten and 4 ones, what number is that?"
