Even and Odd Numbers on Number Lines

Learn to spot the pattern of even and odd numbers as you hop along the number line!

What Are Even and Odd Numbers?

Even numbers are numbers that can be divided into two equal groups without leftovers.
Odd numbers always have one left over when you try to make two equal groups. On a number line, they take turns like a pattern - even, odd, even, odd!

How to Find Them on a Number Line

1️⃣ Start at zero - it's even! (0 is a special even number)

2️⃣ Hop like a bunny - every first hop lands on odd (1), every second hop on even (2)

3️⃣ Look at the last digit - numbers ending with 0,2,4,6,8 are even; 1,3,5,7,9 are odd

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Hopscotch math: Draw a number line with chalk outside and have your child hop on even or odd numbers you call out.
  • Snack time counting: When setting the table, ask "Is this an even or odd number of plates?" to make everyday moments into math moments.
  • Bedtime counting: Count steps or stairs by twos (emphasizing evens) or alternate even/odd as you go up for a fun pre-bedtime activity.
