What Are Halves, Thirds, and Fourths?
When we divide something into equal parts, we're making
fractions!
Fractions help us share things fairly. Today we'll learn about halves (2 equal parts), thirds (3 equal
parts), and fourths (4 equal parts).
How to Make Equal Parts
1️⃣ Count how many friends want to share
2️⃣ Divide the item into that many equal pieces
3️⃣ Check that all pieces are the same size

Parent Tips 🌟
- Kitchen fractions: When cooking, show how you cut sandwiches into halves or pizzas into fourths. Kids learn best with real examples!
- Fraction scavenger hunt: Look for halves, thirds, and fourths around your home (clock faces, pie charts, sliced fruit).
- Play dough fractions: Roll play dough into circles and let your child practice cutting them into equal parts with plastic knives.
