What Are Edges, Vertices, and Faces?
Let's explore 3D shapes together!
Every 3D shape is made up of three important parts: faces (the flat
surfaces),
edges (where two faces meet), and vertices
(the pointy corners).
Counting these helps us understand how shapes are built!
How to Count Them
1️⃣ Faces: Count each flat surface
2️⃣ Edges: Count where two faces meet
3️⃣ Vertices: Count all the pointy corners
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: The Cube Challenge

Cube
Did you know? A cube is special because all its faces are squares!
Example 2: Pyramid Puzzle
Square Pyramid
Great job! The pyramid has a square base and triangle sides.
Parent Tips 🌟
- Shape Hunt: Look for 3D shapes around your home (cereal boxes, balls, dice) and count their parts together.
- Playdough Fun: Make 3D shapes with playdough and use toothpicks for edges, counting as you build.
- Counting Song: Make up a simple song: "Faces are flat, edges are lines, vertices are corners, count them all just fine!"
