Understanding Metric Units
Let's explore how we measure length!
We use different metric units to measure things of different sizes. The three main units are centimeters
(cm), meters (m), and kilometers (km). Just like we use small cups for juice and big buckets for sand,
we choose the measuring unit that fits best!
When to Use Each Unit
1️⃣ Centimeters (cm) - For small things like pencils, erasers, or your hand
2️⃣ Meters (m) - For medium things like your height, a door, or your classroom
3️⃣ Kilometers (km) - For very long distances like between cities or to grandma's house
Let's Practice Choosing!
Example 1: What would you use to measure...

A pencil's length?
Example 2: What would you use to measure...

The distance to the zoo?
Parent Tips 🌟
- Play "Guess the Unit": Point to objects around your home and ask your child which unit they would use to measure it (cm, m, or km).
- Make it real: Let your child measure things with a ruler (cm) and a measuring tape (m) to see the difference.
- Relate to experiences: Talk about distances you travel ("Grandma lives 5km away") to help them understand when to use kilometers.
