What is Subtraction?

Subtraction is when we take things away to find out how many are left.
Imagine you have 5 cookies and you eat 2. How many cookies are left? That's subtraction! We use the minus sign (-) and the equals sign (=) to write subtraction problems.

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use everyday objects: Practice subtraction with toys, snacks, or household items to make it concrete and fun.
  • Make it a game: Play "how many are missing?" by hiding some objects and asking your child to figure out how many you took away.
  • Relate to real life: Point out subtraction in daily activities like sharing cookies, putting away toys, or counting down to events.
