Adding Two-Digit Numbers Without Regrouping

Learn to add numbers where the ones and tens stay in their own columns!

What Does "Without Regrouping" Mean?

When we add two-digit numbers, sometimes we need to regroup (or carry over) when the ones add up to 10 or more.
But in this lesson, we're focusing on problems where the ones add up to less than 10, and the tens add up to less than 10 too! This makes the addition nice and simple.

How to Add Two-Digit Numbers Without Regrouping

1️⃣ Add the ones first (the numbers on the right)

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use physical objects like blocks or beads to represent tens and ones. Group 10 ones together to show how they make a ten.
  • Make it a game - create flashcards with two-digit addition problems and time your child to see how many they can solve correctly in one minute.
  • Relate to real life - ask questions like "If you have 32 marbles and your friend gives you 45 more, how many do you have now?"
