Skip-counting Stories

Counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s through fun adventures!

What is Skip-counting?

Skip-counting is like taking big jumps with numbers!
Instead of counting 1, 2, 3, 4..., we count by 2s (2, 4, 6...), 5s (5, 10, 15...) or 10s (10, 20, 30...). It helps us count faster and prepares us for multiplication.

How to Skip-count

1️⃣ Choose your counting step (2, 5, or 10)

2️⃣ Start from any number

3️⃣ Keep adding the same number each time

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Make it musical: Create skip-counting songs or chants to help memorization (e.g., "5, 10, 15, 20, we're counting fast - isn't it nifty!")
  • Everyday counting: Point out skip-counting opportunities like stairs (count every 2nd step), coins (count by 5s or 10s), or eggs in a carton.
  • Hopscotch math: Draw a hopscotch grid with skip-counting numbers and have your child jump while saying the numbers aloud.
