Halves, Thirds, and Fourths

Learning to divide things into equal parts!

What Are Fractions?

Fractions are parts of a whole!
When we divide something into equal parts, each part is a fraction of the whole. Today we'll learn about halves (½), thirds (⅓), and fourths (¼). These special fractions help us share things fairly!

How to Make Equal Parts

1️⃣ Count how many equal parts you want (2 for halves, 3 for thirds, 4 for fourths)

2️⃣ Divide your shape or object into that many equal pieces

3️⃣ Check that all pieces are exactly the same size!

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Kitchen fractions: When cooking, show how you cut sandwiches into halves or pizza into fourths. Kids learn best with real examples!
  • Fraction scavenger hunt: Challenge your child to find objects in your home that are naturally divided into halves (clocks), thirds (traffic lights), or fourths (window panes).
  • Art fractions: Fold paper to make greeting cards and point out the folds create halves, then fourths. Decorate each section differently!
