What is a Fraction?
Fractions are like sharing your favorite pizza!
A fraction shows how many parts of a whole we have. The top number (numerator) tells how many parts
we're talking about, and the bottom number (denominator) tells how many equal parts the whole is divided
into.
How to Identify Fractions
1️⃣ Look at the whole shape - is it a circle, rectangle, or something else?
2️⃣ Count the total equal parts - this is your denominator (bottom number)
3️⃣ Count the colored or selected parts - this is your numerator (top number)
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Colorful Rectangles
What fraction of the rectangle is colored orange?
Total parts: 5
Colored parts: 2
Example 2: Pizza Party!
If a pizza is cut into 8 equal slices and you eat 3 slices, what fraction did you eat?
Total slices: 8
Slices eaten: 3
