Understanding Fractions in Shapes
Fractions can be shown in many different shapes!
When we look at shapes divided into equal parts, the colored parts can show us fractions. For example,
if a circle is divided into 4 equal parts and 1 part is colored, that shows 1/4!
How to Find the Fraction in a Shape
1️⃣ Count all the equal parts in the shape (denominator)
2️⃣ Count just the colored parts (numerator)
3️⃣ Write the fraction as colored parts / total parts
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Which shape shows 1/2?
Parent Tips 🌟
- Kitchen fractions: Use pizza slices or pie pieces to show real-life examples of fractions in shapes.
- Shape scavenger hunt: Look for fractions in everyday objects like windows (divided into panes) or chocolate bars.
- Art activity: Have your child draw shapes and color different fractions, then guess each other's fractions.
