Create Figures with a Given Area

Discover how different shapes can have the same area!

What Does Area Mean?

Area is how much space a shape covers!
Imagine you're painting the floor - the area is how much paint you would need to cover it completely. Today we'll learn how to make different shapes that all cover the same amount of space, even if they look different!

How to Create Shapes with the Same Area

1️⃣ Choose your area (like 12 square units)

2️⃣ Think of different shapes (rectangle, L-shape, etc.)

3️⃣ Count the squares to make sure they all have the same area

Let's Try Some Examples!

Example 1: Rectangle Challenge

Can you make two different rectangles that each have an area of 12 squares?

Example 2: Shape Explorer

Create your own shape with area:

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use real objects: Try arranging tiles, blocks, or even cookies to create shapes with the same area - it makes the concept tangible!
  • Make it artistic: Have your child draw different animal shapes that all cover the same number of squares on grid paper.
  • Play area detectives: Look around your home for objects with similar surface areas (like two different books or placemats) and compare them.
