Understanding Volume Measurement
Volume tells us how much space a liquid takes up!
We measure liquids like water, juice, and milk using metric units. The two main units are liters (L) and
milliliters (mL).
A liter is bigger than a milliliter - in fact, 1 liter equals 1,000 milliliters! That's like comparing a
big water bottle to a tiny medicine dropper.
How to Convert Between Liters and Milliliters
1️⃣ Remember: 1 liter (L) = 1,000 milliliters (mL)
2️⃣ To convert liters to milliliters: Multiply by 1,000
3️⃣ To convert milliliters to liters: Divide by 1,000
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: The Water Bottle Challenge
Sam has a 2-liter water bottle. How many milliliters is this?
Example 2: The Juice Box Puzzle
Three juice boxes each contain 250 mL. How many liters is this altogether?
Parent Tips 🌟
- Kitchen Math: Involve your child in measuring ingredients while cooking - show how 500 mL is half of a 1L milk carton.
- Bath Time Learning: Use different sized containers in the bath to compare volumes - how many small cups fill a big jug?
- Grocery Store Game: At the store, compare different sized drink containers and have your child guess which holds more.
