Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Fruit Basket
Emma has 8 apples in her basket. Her mom gives her 5 more apples. How many apples does Emma have now?
This is an addition problem because Emma is getting more apples.
8 apples + 5 apples = 13 apples
Emma now has 13 apples in her basket!
Example 2: Sharing Cookies
Liam baked 15 cookies. He shared 7 cookies with his friends. How many cookies does Liam have left?
This is a subtraction problem because Liam is giving away cookies.
15 cookies - 7 cookies = 8 cookies
Liam has 8 cookies left for himself!
