Subtraction - One Digit Review

Taking away numbers is fun when you practice with us!

What is Subtraction?

Subtraction means taking away!
When we subtract, we find out how many are left after some are taken away. It's like when you have cookies and eat some - subtraction tells you how many cookies remain!

How to Subtract One-Digit Numbers

1️⃣ Start with the bigger number (minuend)

2️⃣ Take away the smaller number (subtrahend)

3️⃣ Count what's left (difference)

Let's Practice Together!

Example 1: Cookie Subtraction

You have 7 cookies. You give 3 to your friend. How many cookies do you have left?

Example 2: Balloon Pop!

There are 9 balloons. 2 pop! How many balloons are still floating?

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use real objects: Count out small items like buttons or candies to make subtraction visual and tangible.
  • Make it a game: Play "subtraction bowling" by setting up plastic cups and subtracting how many are knocked down.
  • Daily practice: Incorporate simple subtraction questions into everyday activities like setting the table or sharing snacks.
