Time Words

Learn to tell time using special words like "quarter past," "half past," and "o'clock"!

Understanding Time Words

Time words help us describe exactly what time it is!
Just like we have special words for parts of the day (morning, afternoon, evening), we have special words for telling time on a clock. These words make telling time more fun and precise!

Common Time Words

1️⃣ O'clock - When the minute hand points to 12

2️⃣ Half past - When the minute hand points to 6 (30 minutes)

3️⃣ Quarter past - When the minute hand points to 3 (15 minutes)

4️⃣ Quarter to - When the minute hand points to 9 (45 minutes)

Let's Practice!

Example 1: Match the Time Words

Look at the clock and choose the correct time word:

Example 2: Set the Clock Hands

Make the clock show "quarter past 3":

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Make it a game: Challenge your child to spot time words in daily life ("The movie starts at quarter past 4!").
  • Use real clocks: Point out time words when you see them on analog clocks around your home or in public.
  • Create a time journal: Have your child record special times of day using time words (e.g., "I eat breakfast at half past 7").
