Understanding Coordinate Graphs
Welcome to the world of coordinate graphs!
Coordinate graphs help us locate points using two numbers called coordinates. The first number (x) tells us how far to move left or right, and the second number (y) tells us how far to move up or down. Together, they form an ordered pair like (3, 4).
How to Plot Points
1️⃣ Start at the origin (0,0) where the x-axis and y-axis meet
2️⃣ Move right for positive x, left for negative x
3️⃣ Move up for positive y, down for negative y
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Plot the Point (2, 3)
Example 2: Treasure Hunt Game
Find the treasure at (4, 1) on the grid below. Click where you think it is!

Parent Tips 🌟
- Make it a game: Create a treasure hunt using coordinates around your house or backyard.
- Real-world connections: Show how maps use coordinates (like latitude and longitude) to locate places.
- Graph art: Have your child connect plotted points to reveal hidden pictures or shapes.
