Frequency Charts

Counting and organizing data in a fun, visual way!

What is a Frequency Chart?

Frequency charts help us organize and count information!
A frequency chart (or tally chart) is a special table that shows how often something happens. It's like keeping score in a game - each mark represents one count. We use them to make information easier to understand at a glance!

How to Make a Frequency Chart

1️⃣ Choose your categories (what you're counting)

2️⃣ Make tally marks (each 5th mark crosses the previous four: 𝍷)

3️⃣ Count your tallies and write the totals

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Make it real: Create frequency charts for everyday things - types of cars you see, favorite fruits in your family, or weather patterns.
  • Use manipulatives: Have your child use buttons, beans, or LEGO bricks to physically build their charts before drawing them.
  • Connect to sports: Keep track of scores or player stats during games to show practical uses of frequency counting.
