Understanding Division with 2-Digit Numbers
Division can be fun when you break it down into simple steps!
When dividing by 2-digit numbers, we use the same long division method but with slightly bigger numbers. The key is to estimate carefully and check your work as you go.
The Division Steps
1️⃣ Divide: Estimate how many times the divisor fits into the dividend
2️⃣ Multiply: Multiply the divisor by your estimate
3️⃣ Subtract: Subtract this from your current dividend
4️⃣ Bring down the next digit and repeat!
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Sharing Cookies
You have 168 cookies to share equally among 12 friends. How many cookies does each friend get?
... and 165 more!Let's solve: 168 ÷ 12 = ?
Example 2: Book Pages Challenge
A book has 345 pages. If you read 15 pages each day, how many days will it take to finish the book?
Let's solve: 345 ÷ 15 = ?
Parent Tips 🌟
- Use real-life examples: Have your child divide snacks, toys, or pages in a book to make division practical and fun.
- Estimation first: Encourage estimating the answer before calculating to develop number sense.
- Check with multiplication: Teach your child to verify their division answers by multiplying the quotient by the divisor.
