The Magic of Dividing Numbers with Zeroes
Did you know dividing numbers with zeroes at the end can be super simple?
When you see a number ending with zeroes being divided by a multi-digit number, you can make the problem much easier by "canceling" zeroes from both numbers first!
How to Divide Numbers Ending in Zeroes
1️⃣ Count the zeroes at the end of both numbers
2️⃣ Cancel equal zeroes from both numbers
3️⃣ Divide the remaining numbers normally
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: 2400 ÷ 60
Step 1: Count the zeroes - 2400 has 2 zeroes, 60 has 1 zero
Step 2: Cancel 1 zero from both (the smaller amount): 2400 ÷ 60 → 240 ÷ 6
Step 3: Now divide 240 ÷ 6 = 40
So, 2400 ÷ 60 = 40
Try dividing 3600 ÷ 90 using the same method. Did you get 40? Great job! 👍
Example 2: 15000 ÷ 500
Step 1: Count the zeroes - 15000 has 3 zeroes, 500 has 2 zeroes
Step 2: Cancel 2 zeroes from both: 15000 ÷ 500 → 150 ÷ 5
Step 3: Now divide 150 ÷ 5 = 30
So, 15000 ÷ 500 = 30
Now try 42000 ÷ 700. The answer should be 60. You're becoming a division wizard! 🧙♂️

Parent Tips 🌟
- Real-world practice: Use grocery receipts to practice - "If 10 apples cost $20, how much is one apple?"
- Zero cancellation game: Make flashcards with division problems and have your child cancel zeroes before solving.
- Visual aids: Use groups of coins or buttons to show how dividing by 10 or 100 actually works.
