Understanding Fraction Comparison
Fractions can be tricky, but comparing them is like comparing slices of pizza!
When we compare fractions, we're looking to see which part of the whole is bigger or smaller. There are a few simple ways to do this, and we'll learn them together with fun examples.
How to Compare Fractions
1️⃣ Same denominators: Just compare numerators (the top numbers)
2️⃣ Same numerators: The fraction with bigger denominator is smaller
3️⃣ Different fractions: Find common denominator or use cross-multiplication
Let's Practice Comparing Fractions!
Example 1: Pizza Slices
Which is more pizza: 3/8 of a pizza or 5/8 of a pizza?
3/8
vs
5/8
Example 2: Chocolate Bars
Would you rather have 2/5 of a chocolate bar or 3/7 of the same bar?
2/5
vs
3/7
