Choose Numbers with a Particular Product

Discover the magic of multiplication by finding number pairs that make specific products!

What Does "Product" Mean?

When we multiply two numbers together, the answer is called the product!
For example, if we multiply 3 × 4, the product is 12. Today we'll learn how to find different pairs of numbers that give the same product when multiplied together.

How to Find Number Pairs with the Same Product

1️⃣ Start with the product you want to find factors for (like 12)

2️⃣ Think of multiplication facts that give that answer (3×4, 2×6, 1×12)

3️⃣ Check your answers by multiplying the numbers to see if they make the product

Let's Practice with Examples!

Example 1: Find number pairs that multiply to make 12

Click on all the correct pairs:

3 × 4
2 × 5
6 × 2
1 × 12
3 × 5
4 × 3

3 × 4 looks like:

2 × 6 looks like:

Example 2: Help the squirrel collect acorns with product 18

The squirrel can only climb trees marked with number pairs that multiply to 18. Which trees should she climb?

3 × 6
2 × 8
9 × 2
1 × 18

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use real objects like buttons or cereal pieces to create arrays that show multiplication facts visually.
  • Play factor bingo - call out products and have your child mark all the factor pairs on their bingo card.
  • Connect to division by explaining that finding factors is like asking "What numbers divide evenly into this product?"
