Identify Factors

Discover the numbers that multiply together to make another number!

What Are Factors?

Factors are numbers we multiply together to get another number.
For example, the factors of 6 are 1, 2, 3, and 6 because 1 × 6 = 6 and 2 × 3 = 6. Every number has at least two factors: 1 and itself!

How to Find Factors

1️⃣ Start with 1 and the number itself

2️⃣ Check which numbers in between divide evenly

3️⃣ List them in pairs (like 2 × 3 = 6)

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use household items: Group cereal pieces or buttons to visually demonstrate factors (e.g., 12 pieces can make 3 groups of 4 or 4 groups of 3).
  • Factor scavenger hunt: Have your child find objects around the house that come in certain factor amounts (like 6 eggs in a carton - factors are 1, 2, 3, 6).
  • Make it a game: Take turns naming factors of a number - the first to miss one loses that round!
