Understanding how numbers are built digit by digit!

What Are Place Values?

Every digit in a number has a special place and value!
Place value helps us understand that the position of a digit in a number determines its value. For example, the "3" in 35 means 3 tens (30), while the "3" in 53 means 3 ones (just 3).

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use real objects: Group small items (beans, buttons) into tens and hundreds to visually demonstrate place values.
  • Play place value games: Create a "number detective" game where your child identifies digits in different places.
  • Connect to money: Use dollars (hundreds), dimes (tens), and pennies (ones) to show real-world place value applications.
