Understanding Mixed Time Units
Time is all around us!
Sometimes we need to add or subtract different time units like hours, minutes, and seconds together.
Just like when you calculate how much time you spend on homework or how long until your favorite show starts!
How to Add and Subtract Mixed Time
1️⃣ Convert everything to the smallest unit (usually seconds)
2️⃣ Do the math (add or subtract)
3️⃣ Convert back to mixed units
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Adding Time
If a movie is 2 hours 15 minutes long and you watch another movie that's 1 hour 45 minutes, how much time did you spend watching movies in total?
Try solving it:
Example 2: Subtracting Time
Your soccer practice lasts 1 hour 30 minutes. If you've already practiced for 45 minutes, how much time is left?

Parent Tips 🌟
- Make it real: Use daily activities like cooking times or TV schedules to practice time calculations.
- Visual aids help: Use a clock with movable hands to demonstrate time addition and subtraction.
- Break it down: Teach kids to convert all time to minutes first, do the math, then convert back to hours and minutes.
