What Are Time Zones?
Time zones help us tell time all around the world!
Because Earth is round and spins, different places have daylight at different times. The world is divided into 24 time zones, each about 15 degrees of longitude apart. When it's noon where you are, it might be breakfast time somewhere else!

How Time Zones Work
1️⃣ Earth is divided into 24 time zones (like orange slices!)
2️⃣ Each time zone is about 1 hour different from its neighbors
3️⃣ When you travel east, time moves forward. Travel west, time moves back!
Let's Explore Time Zones!
Example 1: Time Zone Traveler
If it's 3:00 PM in New York (Eastern Time), what time is it in these cities?
Example 2: World Clock Challenge
Adjust the clocks to show what time it would be in these cities when it's 10:00 AM in Tokyo:
Tokyo
10:00 AM
Paris
New York
Parent Tips 🌟
- Use a world map with time zones to help visualize the concept - point out where relatives live and compare times
- When watching international sports events, calculate what time it is in the host country
- Create a "time zone travel journal" where kids record what time it is in different cities when they do daily activities
