Learn clever shortcuts to know if numbers divide evenly!

What Are Divisibility Rules?

Divisibility rules are like math magic tricks!
They help you quickly figure out if one number can be divided by another without leaving a remainder. These shortcuts make division problems much easier!

The Most Useful Divisibility Rules

Rule for 2

A number is divisible by 2 if its last digit is even (0, 2, 4, 6, or 8).

Example: 346 is divisible by 2 because it ends with 6.

Rule for 3

A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 3.

Example: 123 (1+2+3=6) is divisible by 3 because 6 is divisible by 3.

Rule for 5

A number is divisible by 5 if it ends with 0 or 5.

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Make it a game: Challenge your child to find numbers around the house (like on clocks, price tags, or license plates) and apply the divisibility rules.
  • Use real-world examples: Show how divisibility rules help when dividing treats equally among friends or calculating sports scores.
  • Create a cheat sheet: Help your child make colorful flashcards with the different rules to practice with.
