Put Integers in Order

Master the skill of arranging positive and negative numbers from least to greatest!

Understanding Integer Order

Integers are whole numbers that can be positive, negative, or zero.
When we put integers in order, we arrange them from the smallest (most negative) to the largest (most positive). Think of a thermometer - colder temperatures are lower numbers, warmer temperatures are higher numbers!

How to Order Integers

1️⃣ Find the most negative number first (this is the smallest)

2️⃣ Compare numbers to zero - negatives are less than zero, positives are greater

3️⃣ For numbers with same sign, the number with smaller absolute value comes first

-5
-3
0
2

Let's Practice!

Example 1: Drag to Order

Drag these numbers to put them in order from least to greatest:

-7
3
-1
5
0

Example 2: Temperature Challenge

These are temperatures recorded at different times of day. Order them from coldest to warmest:

-3°C
12°C
-8°C
5°C
0°C

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Real-world connections: Use real-life examples like temperatures, bank accounts (positive/negative balances), or elevator floors to practice ordering integers.
  • Number line practice: Draw a large number line on paper or with chalk outside to physically place numbers in order.
  • Game approach: Create a card game where you deal integer cards and race to put them in order - make it fun with small rewards!
