Understanding Place Values
Every digit in a number has a special place and value!
The position of a digit in a number determines its value. From right to left, we have ones, tens,
hundreds, thousands, and so on. Knowing place values helps us read, write, and compare numbers easily.
Breaking Down Numbers
1️⃣ Identify each digit in the number
2️⃣ Determine its place (ones, tens, hundreds, etc.)
3️⃣ Calculate its value by multiplying the digit by its place value

Parent Tips 🌟
- Play "Guess My Number": Give clues about digits and their place values ("My number has a 5 in the hundreds place and a 2 in the tens place...") and have your child guess the number.
- Use real-world examples: When looking at prices, distances, or quantities, ask your child to identify specific place values ("What's the value of the 8 in this $18.99 price?").
- Create a place value flip book: Make a book with flaps for each digit where your child can write different numbers and see how changing one digit affects the whole number.
