Understanding Decimal Order
Decimals might look tricky, but ordering them is just like alphabetizing
words!
When we put decimals in order, we compare them digit by digit from left to right. The more digits a
number has after the decimal point doesn't necessarily make it larger - it's all about the value of each
digit in its place.
How to Order Decimals
1️⃣ Compare whole numbers (left of the decimal point) first
2️⃣ Compare tenths place (first digit after decimal) if whole numbers are equal
3️⃣ Move right to hundredths, thousandths, etc., until you find a difference

Parent Tips 🌟
- Money makes it real: Use dollar amounts to practice decimal ordering. Ask your child to arrange prices from a grocery receipt or online shopping list.
- Create decimal cards: Write decimals on index cards and play sorting games - time your child to make it exciting!
- Connect to measurements: When cooking or doing DIY projects, have your child order measurements like 1.5 cups, 0.75 cups, and 2.25 cups.
