Understanding Our Number System
Every digit in a number has a special place and value!
Our number system is based on groups of ten. Each position in a number represents a different power of ten, from ones to tens, hundreds, thousands, and beyond! The value of each digit depends on its place in the number.
How Place Value Works
1️⃣ Start from the right - that's the ones place
2️⃣ Each place to the left is 10 times bigger
3️⃣ The same digit can have different values in different places

Parent Tips 🌟
- Real-world practice: When shopping, ask your child to read prices aloud emphasizing place values ("This costs three hundred twenty-five dollars - that's 3 hundreds, 2 tens, and 5 ones").
- Make it visual: Use graph paper to write numbers, with each digit in its own column to reinforce the place value concept.
- Number sense games: Play "guess my number" games where you give clues about digits and their places ("My number has 7 in the thousands place and 2 in the tens place").
